“No one should seek their own good, but instead the good of others.”
What is Servant Leadership?
A leadership philosophy in which an individual interacts with others. Either in
a management or fellow employee capacity with the aim of achieving authority
rather than power. The authority figure intends to promote the well-being of
others around them. Servant leadership involves the individual demonstrating
the characteristics of empathy, listening, stewardship and commitment to
personal growth toward others
The idea of servant leadership is that the typical hierarchy where employees
are supposed to serve their bosses is turned upside down. Instead, leaders
serve their people.
Servant leaders do not abuse, humiliate or devalue people. They understand
that behaviors either build trust or destroy it, and without trust one cannot
generally achieve consistent high employee engagement and high performance.
Lastly, a key attribute with this type of Leadership is to act as a selfless mentor.
Servant leaders know that by helping to direct the people who work for them,
they will help their employees learn vital skills that will both improve their
performance, and improve them as people. When your employees improve
your business will improve as well.
