Are You a Skilled Negotiator?

“You rarely get what you don’t ask for”

Although most people willingly pay the sticker price for everything they buy, there
are circumstances when negotiating for a better deal can work to your advantage.

Here are seven tips to help you strengthen your bargaining skills:

1. Be Specific About What You Want - You can’t get what you want if you don’t know
that you are bargaining for it.

2. Do Your Research First – If you are angling for a better deal on something, go in
prepared and know exactly what you want first.

3. Exude Confidence - Sellers are used to being asked for discounts

4. Talk To The Right Person - There’s no point in wasting your great skills on someone
who lacks the power to give you what you want.

5. Know Your Price – Have an idea of what you ideal price is so that you know where
to start the negotiations.

6. Be Flexible - Especially for larger purchases. It’s helpful to be willing to give up
smaller things in order to get what you want.

7. Be Ready to Walk Away – Where you are trying to get a deal on a table or a new car,
don’t get emotionally attached to the item. If the negotiations aren’t going your way,
then walk away.
